Heritage Bank announces N24.2bn gross earnings

Heritage Bank Plc announced gross earnings of N24.2 billion for the operating year ended December 31, 2015.
This was contained in an audited financial statement released by the bank for 2015, representing its first full operating year since the acquisition of former Enterprise Bank Plc in October 2014.
The financial statement showed that the bank recorded a profit before tax of N1.5 billion, profit after tax of N1.1 billion and net interest income of N12.2 billion.
Meanwhile, the bank attracted N312 billion as deposits from customers during the year, which was seen as an indication of confidence. This was as the bank said it supported businesses and individuals with N175 billion as loans and advances, achieving a total asset of N483.4 billion for the year.
Commenting on the result, Managing Director/Chief Executive, Heritage Bank, Mr. Ifie Sekibo, said: 'This result is a testimony to the increased acceptability of Heritage Bank's products and services by the banking public. It is also a reward for the diligent commitment of staff and management to our mission to create, preserve and transfer wealth across generations.
'In the 2016 operating year, our desire to reciprocate the patronage of our customers and goodwill from stakeholders has prompted us to introduce new and bespoke services driven by cutting edge technology designed to empower businesses and individuals with opportunities to achieve economic prosperity.

The wife of the president Aisha Buhari has finally fulfilled the promise she made to Chibok parents after their children were kidnapped by Boko Haram terrorists.
Mrs Aisha Buhari, the Wife of the President, on Sunday presented about N30 million cash support to parents of the abducted Government Secondary School (GSS) Chibok students in Borno.
Buhari, represented by Hajiya Nana Shettima, the wife of the Borno governor presented the cash to the parents at a ceremony in Maiduguri. She explained that the gesture was aimed at assisting the parents with some financial support towards alleviating their sufferings.
Buhari pointed out that the presentation was in fulfillment of her promise to assist the less privileged and victims of insurgency in the North East.
“Today’s presentation was in fulfillment of the promise I made earlier in the year during my book launch in Abuja.
“I made a promise that the proceeds will be use to better the lives of women and victims of insurgency in the North East,” she said.
She urged the beneficiaries to invest the money in productive ventures, so it can better their living conditions.
“This money is not a sort of compensation, but a kind of support for those in need. Our immediate prayer is for God to help trace and rescue the abducted girls so that they can be safely re-united with their families,” Buhari said.
She commended the military for their efforts in fighting the Boko Haram terrorists and expressed optimism that the search for the abducted girls would soon yield dividends.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that each of the 215 parent was given a cash of N139,000 during the event.
Also speaking, Mrs Pauline Taline, a former deputy governor of Plateau said that the gesture was goodwill from the wife of the president to the parents.
This is a goodwill support from Her Excellency Mrs Muhammadu Buhari to the parents of the abducted girls.
“We appeal to them to put the money into proper usage, either by investing it in farming or any other business venture,” Taline said.
NAN recalls that 219 GSS Chibok were abducted on April 14 by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, while writing their SSCE at the school.

Hunger stalks Boko Haram victims in Nigerian camp as food runs out

Having fled Boko Haram and sought refuge in an aid camp in northeastern Nigeria, Babakura Wakin watched some 30 people die, including his younger sister, as scarce food supplies ran out.
But it was the fate of an elderly man, Baba Madu, who cried with hunger day after day before dying of starvation, that has stayed with the 25-year-old, a month after he left the camp.
“He lost a lot of weight – it was hunger that killed people like him, not illness,” he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Saraki, Ekweremadu arraigned for forgery, granted bail

FG orders sack of all striking resident doctors

The Federal Government on Tuesday  ordered the sack of all striking members of National Association of Resident Doctors.
