Speaking at a forum organised by the PDP in conjuction with the International Republican Institute (IRI), on Thursday, January 21, the director, new media of the party, Deji Adeyanju noted that present administration has only six female ministers in the federal executive council as against the 35 per cent affirmative plan during the Goodluck Jonathan led administration.
He disclosed that the PDP has in its reviewed constitution has created a platform for young Nigerians who want to join the party through the introduction of the youth and women wing of the party.
He said: “The youth wing that has been recommended by the constitution review as provided in the constitution is meant to provide an independent platform for Nigerian youths.”
“It would run independently of the party with its own leadrer, organs and mobilize for members, carry out membership registration. its an independent organ with a life of its own.”
“Also, he women wing will massively engage women with strong emphasis on young women. The PDP brought about this 35 per cent affirmative action for women with the purpose of ensuring that women get a reasonable fitting in politics. It would play a key role for the party in terms of engagements and mobilization for the party.”
“Basically, the youth and women wing have been institutionalized to take back power back to the people,” he concluded.
Speaking at the event, the IRI ‎Program Manager, Austin Aigbe advised the party on the need to build its image through the social media.
Aigbe warned the party against “confrontational criticism” against the opposition All Progressive Party which he described as “a ploy to distract the leadership of the PDP,” but stressed on the need for “simple, direct messages that could pass home the intended the message to the people.”
